What is IDbox?

IDbox is a set of software components that allows supervision of industrial processes. It integrates all available information sources, processes that capture signals and offers the tools for analysis to assist in operational decision making.

All the collected data is processed according to the defined business rules generating new values and new forms of display, providing increased and continuous business value. The goal is to have centralized information on a single platform available from mobile devices. Each user will have access to specific and personalized information which will help in better decision making and increase the company´s productivity.

From a functional point of view, IDbox can integrate internal data sources (for example energy, production or maintenance) and external data sources (for example meteorological data, traffic, energy costs or raw materials). All this information is integrated by connectors, processed by a “Big Data” technology and offered to users as well as to other systems.

Conceptually we can identify three functional responsibilities: Integrate, Process and Analyze. This modular architecture enables us to adapt technology to specific business requirements, offering a range of deployment modes.

Deployment options

Typically used in an industrial or energy generation plant that does not have communication with other entities in the system. The only requirement is to integrate everything inside the plant. As an example, in a conventional energy generation plant it is necessary to integrate data on production, turbine, refrigeration, chemical processes, seismic or radiological situation to perform calculations among them, analyze this information internally or give access to mobile devices through Internet. All the components are installed in a single IDbox entity which, depending on the number of signals, the frequency of reception and the number of concurrent users, usually requires two servers. One to integrate and process and another to provide information for analysis.

This mode of deployment is used in more complex environments, where geographically diverse data sources have to be integrated into a control centre. An example of this type of deployment is one that allows centralization of distribution networks of water, energy or gas. Also multiple integrated industrial plants, power generation plants of any utility or a smart city. In these cases the connectors are usually installed in the data source, managing communication and the temporary persistence for safeguarding, so that in case of communication breaks the historical and real-time functionality will always be available for fixed-term periods, typically from 30 to 60 days.

This option is designed for clients with a low number of signals who require integration of business information facilitating access to this data through a simple interface. The client does not have to worry about the infrastructure, communications, licensing costs, etc. He will only benefit from the monitoring service in the cloud. This mode of deployment is limited from a functional point of view, because the IDbox servers and entities are shared. A use case example for this kind of deployment would be a food distributor who requires refrigeration monitoring throughout the whole process and access to the information from anywhere on any device.
